How to write an X bio that converts profile visits

The bio carries 30 of the 100 points in the Method, more than any other Element. This is what those points are for.

A stranger arrives on your profile from one post. They read 160 characters and decide. Most bios spend those characters describing the owner instead of the reader.

A converting bio answers 4 questions in order: who you help, what they get, why to believe you, what to do next. Nothing else fits.

1. Name a specialty, not a category

Entrepreneur, marketer, writer: these are categories, and every visitor has already followed 50 of them. A specialty is narrow enough to be memorable.

Rule BIO-1A precise specialty8 points

Zeus deducts when the first line names no niche a stranger could repeat back.

Loses points

Marketing consultant. Entrepreneur. Dog dad.

Keeps them

I write cold email for B2B software teams.

The second version tells a stranger, in 8 words, what you are for.

2. State what following you gets them

This is the line almost every bio is missing. The visitor is asking one silent question: what arrives in my timeline if I follow.

Answer it with an outcome, not a topic. Not thoughts on marketing, but the specific thing they leave with.

Rule BIO-2What a follower gets8 points

The heaviest single deduction in the Method. A bio with no promised outcome loses the most points of any Rule.

3. Put one piece of proof in

Proof is a number, a name or a result. It replaces the adjective a stranger has no reason to accept.

  • A number: revenue, subscribers, books sold, years in the work.
  • A name: a company, a publication, a client anyone can check.
  • A result: the thing you did, stated plainly and without an adverb.

Rule BIO-3Proof in the bio5 points

Zeus deducts when nothing in the bio can be verified by a stranger in one glance.

4. End with one instruction

One call to action, and only one. Two competing asks split the visitor and they take neither.

Rule BIO-4One call to action5 points

Zeus deducts for no call to action, and deducts again for more than one.

What to cut

Cut the label stack. Cut views my own, cut the coffee, cut the pipe characters holding 3 nouns apart.

  • Job titles separated by pipes, with no verb between them.
  • Emoji used as bullet points, which push the words off the visible line.
  • Anything true of 10,000 other accounts in your field.

Rule BIO-5Verbs, not labels2 points

Verbs describe work being done. A bio built from labels alone loses points.

Rule BIO-6Emoji under control2 points

Emoji are not banned in a bio, but a bio made of them costs points.

Check it the way a stranger reads it

Read your bio out loud, then read it as someone who has never heard of you. If the second reading learns nothing, the 30 points are gone.

Zeus does that second reading from a screenshot, and names every point lost. The Bio is 1 of the 5 Elements it grades.

Or drag it in, or paste it from the clipboard. You can add two, so nothing gets cut off. Any profile works, including your friends’.
